Bayer Crop Science Philippines and DA-Bureau of Agricultural Research sign partnership agreement

On August 22, 2024, Bayer Crop Science Philippines Inc. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Philippine Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR), laying the foundation for a strategic partnership that focuses on critical areas such as agricultural research, capacity-building and knowledge-sharing, sustainability, and to scale up utilization of farming systems and solutions like Direct Seeded Rice (DSR). 

Country Commercial Lead Nisha Sharma signed on to the partnership alongside DA-BAR Director Dr. Junel B. Soriano at the DA-BAR Office of the Director, RDMIC, Diliman, Quezon City. “We are honored to partner with the Philippine Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Agricultural Research. This collaboration represents a shared commitment to transforming agriculture in the Philippines, fostering innovation, and providing cutting-edge solutions to enhance productivity and sustainability of our Filipino farmers” says Nisha Sharma.

The Philippines topped the World Risk Report with a 46.82 world risk index as a country prone to natural calamities due to climate change. The Department of Science and Technology reports that an average of 20 storms and typhoons enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility each year, with about 8 or 9 of them crossing the Philippines, causing loss of lives and destruction to property and livelihoods.
