Bayer Crop Science Philippines’ Canlubang Site now runs on 100% renewable energy

Bayer Crop Science Philippines’ Canlubang Site has officially switched to renewable energy! On June 26, 2025, members of #TeamBayer and partners from Shell Energy Philippines Inc. gathered at our Canlubang site for a “switching” ceremony to mark the complete transition to 100% renewable energy.

This milestone, powered by a diverse mix of solar and hydro sources provided by Shell Energy Philippines, reinforces our commitment to our global goal of utilizing 100% renewable electricity at Bayer by 2030. This transition not only powers our operations sustainably but also contributes to cleaner air and a healthier environment.

Established in 1985, the Canlubang site first served as a crop protection warehouse facility and grew in 2014 to include a rice processing plant. This switch is also in line with the Philippine government’s Green Energy Option Program or GEOP that allows eligible entities to switch from being a captive market of a distribution utility or electric cooperative, to sourcing power directly from a retail electricity supplier. With GEOP, entities have the power to choose renewable energy over fossil fuels, allowing them to source 100% power directly from a renewable energy supplier.

Rising pressure on ecosystems, such as emergence of new pests and changing climate, demands agriculture to transform to produce more while using resources more efficiently. Recognizing the power of collaboration to solve the challenges confronting farmers, Bayer Crop Science and Pest Management Council of the Philippines (PMCP) launch the Bayer Regenerative Initiative Awards 2024, which will put a spotlight on innovators with novel pest management solutions that help secure farmers’ harvests while helping the planet thrive.

The Philippines topped the World Risk Report with a 46.82 world risk index as a country prone to natural calamities due to climate change. The Department of Science and Technology reports that an average of 20 storms and typhoons enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility each year, with about 8 or 9 of them crossing the Philippines, causing loss of lives and destruction to property and livelihoods.
